All Better-Part 2

It turns out that Blake's surgery was too good to be true...Blake was doing great and we were thrilled at how perfectly everything went with his surgery and his recovery. Blake seemed so much happier, he started walking and was cruising everywhere. I finally relaxed and was not worrying about him as much. Then, last Sunday, I picked Blake up and it felt like his heart was pounding. I pulled out the stethescope and listened to his heart. It was beating well over 200 bpm and I immediately burst into tears. We called the cardiologist on call and they told us to bring him to the hospital right away. They did an EKG and sure enough, Blake was back in SVT. They told us that his heart had repaired itself and the surgery did not hold and he was back in his arrhythmia...so disappointing! They admitted him to the hospital and started him back on the medication that he was on prior to his surgery. 3 days later, we got to come home. They are hoping that the surgery may have helped things a little bit and that hopefully with his medications, they will be able to put off doing the surgery again until he is 3 or 4 like they had originally planned.
This hospitalization was a little tricky with Blake being so mobile. They were able to get him a portable heart monitor and they brought him this cool car walker to cruise the halls in.

We went on lots of wagon rides

And the girls came up and entertained him

Blake is doing fine, still cruising everywhere and happy as can be. It was just so nice to not have him on medication and not having to worry so much, but one day, he will be med-free and healthy again. Can't wait for that day!

Birthday pictures

I can't believe this little guy will be 1 in just a couple weeks!

He wasn't sure about the cake at first, but as soon as he tasted it, he dove right in!

MMMmmm

"Am I in trouble?"

He got so mad because he couldn't get the frosting off of his hands!

"I've had enough!"

We love you Blakers!

All Better!

Blake's surgery went great last week. Everything turned out perfect and our little guy is home and has made a complete recovery. For the past 9 months, I have had to give Blake medication twice a day, listen to his heart several times per day, take him to multiple doctors appointments and have worried about him constantly. Now he is all better and just like any other 11 month old. I keep finding myself listening to his heart or thinking that I've missed giving him his medication and I have to remind myself that he is fine and I don't need to worry so much (I will always worry!) I am so grateful to have this week over with and am so thankful to have a healthy baby!
This is the morning of Blake's surgery (6am to be exact). He was wide awake and had no idea what was coming:(

Cute little hospital jammies

After the surgery.
Poor little guy was not happy coming out of anesthesia. He had to lay flat for 4 hours and was not a fan. It was so good to hold my baby again!

Those of you who know Blake, know that he LOVES Cheetos. Grandma brought Cheetos to the hospital and when the nurse said he could eat, that was the first thing he wanted.

To prove how good he's doing, we took a little video of Blake's most recent accomplishment. We are so proud of him!

Little Buddy

When Blake was diagnosed with his heart condition, we were told that there was a chance he would outgrow it and there was the chance that he would need surgery to fix it when he was 3 or 4 years old. I have been hoping and praying that he would outgrow it, but it looks like he is going to need the surgery, and because the medications are not controlling his heart rate like they should, he needs it now, not when he's 3 or 4. His cardiologist actually decided back in May to schedule it for August and it seemed so far away...well it's not so far away anymore! We went in for his pre-op appointment today and my "little" guy weighs 22 lbs 7 oz and is 31 1/2 inches long (average 11 month old, right???)
They did another EKG today. Blake is getting used to all the cords

Echocardiogram

Blake will need your prayers this Thursday (and so will John and I:) The good news is that after the surgery, he won't need any medication and he will be a healthy normal baby again. Yay for modern medicine!
